Call Me Jessiecartel tops the qualifiers to the June 18, $340,165 final at Ruidoso Downs.

Call Me Jessiecartel, a son of Jess A Chicks owned by Empire Racing and Pavon Racing LLC, on Friday set the fastest qualifying time to the June 18, $340,165 Mountain Top Futurity (RG2) for New Mexico-breds at Ruidoso Downs.

Call Me Jessiecartel broke his maiden with a three-quarter length victory in the fourth of 12 trials. Racing against a reported 9-mph head wind, the gelding covered 350 yards in :17.762. Sergio Becerra Jr. rode Call Me Jessiecartel for trainer Eric Valenzuela.

Call Me Jessiecartel was bred by Mike Abraham. The sorrel gelding is out of Lilly Cartel, a daughter of the Holland Ease stallion Corona Cartel. His second dam, the First Down Dash mare Corona Kool, was the sport's champion 2-year-old filly in 1999 and champion aged mare in '01.

An earner of $11,175, Call Me Jessiecartel has won one of three races.
