The American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum, located in Amarillo, is once again hosting the America’s Horse in Art: Versatility and Art Field Trip. Since 2013, the annual field trip has connected more than 1,000 area students with professional artists. Due to the popularity of the program with area art teachers, the Hall of Fame has expanded the program into a two-day event to reach more than 500 area students this year alone.
On October 2 and 3, students will learn from artists featured in the museum’s America’s Horse in Art exhibit. Three artists have been invited to lead discussions on their art techniques and how to accurately depict the American Quarter Horse in art. The artists will share their tips and tricks on how they pursued an art career. The artists for this year’s field trip are Kathryn Leitner, Edgar Sotelo and Tammy Lynne Penn.
To ensure students have adequate time with the artists and have a valuable experience, the Hall of Fame has scheduled time allotments between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The Versatility and Art Field Trip is an opportunity for students to develop their interest in the arts while gaining valuable tips and advice from top industry professionals. The field trip is a precursor to the annual Youth Art Show. The show provides students the opportunity to express what they’ve learned through original artwork and enter a competition for cash prizes and the opportunity to have their work shown in the Museum.
The Hall of Fame will also offer free admission to this art-focused field trip, which has been made possible with funding from the Josephine Anderson Charitable Trust. Funding is available on a first-come basis to help cover transportation costs. Please contact the Hall of Fame for more information.
