The Best Remuda Award recognizes an outstanding ranch remuda or band of working horses, comprised of American Quarter Horses.

Wagonhound Land & Livestock of Douglas, Wyoming, is the 2018 Zoetis AQHA Best Remuda winner and La Media Suerte of Salto, Uruguay, is the inaugural AQHA International Best Remuda winner.

Wagonhound encompasses more than 235,000 acres, where owners Catherine and Art Nicholas raise nearly 5,000 head of Red Angus cattle and feed almost 7,500 head of cattle in their feedlot, and raise the quality American Quarter Horses needed to operate the ranch. La Media Suerte is owned by Alvaro Martinicorena. The ranch name translates literally as “the half luck,” and indicates a colonial measurement – a “luck” of land grant was 2,000 hectares; so a 1,000 hectare half luck is approximately 2,500 acres, but it serves as the family’s inside joke. On the rich land in Uruguay, La Media Suerte runs mostly Hereford and Angus cattle on its several hundred thousand acres, as well as a remuda of American Quarter Horses it has cultivated for more than 30 years.
