One Sweet Boss takes the Louisiana-bred stakes at Evangeline Downs.

Flying K Ranch LLC’s homebred One Sweet Boss broke sharply in Saturday’s $40,000 Opelousas Stakes (RG3) for Louisiana-breds at Evangeline Downs and prevailed by a nose at the wire for his third career stakes win. Leonardo Rodriguez rode the One Sweet Jess gelding for trainer Phillip Calais Jr. and clocked 400 yards in :20.227 for an 84 speed index.

The 7-year-old gelding pushed his bankroll to $245,705 with a record of 38-9-5-6. One Sweet Boss also won the 2024 Mid City Stakes (RG3) at the Fair Grounds and the 2023 Miss Polly Classic (G2) at Delta Downs. 

One Sweet Boss is out of Starlight Bess, a daughter of Rakin In The Cash who was a three-time winner on the track.
