All American Futurity

The All American Futurity is the richest race for 2-year-olds in North America.

The All American Futurity (G1) is the richest race for 2-year-olds in North America, regardless of breed.

Run every Labor Day at Ruidoso Downs in the mountain village of Ruidoso, New Mexico, the $3 million race is contested by 2-year-old American Quarter Horses at the classic distance of 440 yards (one quarter mile).

The All American Futurity was first run in 1959, with a purse of $129,686. It was won by Hugh Huntley’s filly Galobar, who was trained by Newt Keck and ridden by Cliff Lambert.

In 1978, the All American became the first horse race in history to offer a million dollar purse and was won by Moon Lark.

In 1982, the race’s purse was upped to a $2 million, with $1 million going to winner Mr Master Bug.

In 2015, the purse was raised to $3 million.

It is the final leg of the Quarter Horse Futurity Triple Crown at Ruidoso Downs. In the event one horse wins all three races (Ruidoso Futurity, Rainbow Futurity and All American Futurity), its connections will receive a $2 million bonus.
