Ruidoso Select Day 1

Apollitical Jess colt tops first night of Ruidoso Select Sale.

Press Release

Political Candy topped the first night of the Ruidoso Select Sale.

Political Candy  - from the family of the recently retired champion and All American Futurity winner Jess Good Candy – brought $130,000 and topped the first of three sessions to the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale on Friday night.

A son of Apollitical Jess, Political Candy was consigned by agent Lazy E Ranch for breeder Don Griffin. Reliance Ranches, LLC was the buyer.

The second high seller at $107,000 was Red Texas Sunset, a daughter of Mr Jess Perry and Apollitical Time. She was from the Julianna Hawn Holt consignment and purchased by Marshall Watson.

Apollitical Time, an earner $904,242, was a two-time champion on the track and became broodmare of the year in 2010. She is the dam of world champion and impressive young sire Apollitical Jess, the sire of one All American Futurity qualifier and three All American Derby qualifiers.

A year ago there were nine yearlings that sold for $100,000 or more during the first session. This year, there were four $100,000 sellers.

This correction is tied in a decline in oil and cattle prices along with the uncertainty of an election year. The average dropped from $40,228 (per horse sold final) to $29,215. The addition of more yearlings bringing $100,000 would have drastically boosted the average.
