Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale Recap
The three-night sale ended Sunday at Ruidoso Downs.

After a slow opening session, the three-day Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale continued a two-session rebound during Sunday’s closing night.
The Saturday session averaged $39,459 per horse (sold) while the closing session nearly matched that number at $39,139 per horse (sold). There were nine yearlings that brought $100,000 or more on Saturday night with seven yearlings reaching the six-figure mark on Sunday night. The opening session this year produced four yearlings that sold for $100,000 or more.
Throw out the first night and the final two sessions averaged $39,299 per horse (sold). Last year’s final average was $41,835 per horse (sold).
The final session was topped by two yearlings that brought $180,000.
Amendola sold for $180,000 on a bid from Fulton Quien Sabe Ranch and Turner Farms. The Walk Thru Fire colt was consigned by Burns Ranch, agent. He is out of Golden State Futurity runner-up Babe On The Fly, dam of six stakes winners and Ruidoso Derby runner-up Glock.
Also fetching $180,000 was Fly Baby Fly, a daughter of One Famous Eagle from the Julianna Hawn Holt consignment. She was bought by Judd Kearl, who trained three of the top-four finishers in the Grade 1, $2.4-million All American Derby earlier that afternoon.
Fly Baby Fly is out of champion two-year-old Higher Fire, an earner of $1,314,742. She has produced Los Alamitos Super Derby runner-up Highest Fire and $201,373 earner Corona The Cat, who qualified for the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity and the Golden State Million Futurity, from four starters.
Julianna Hawn Holt sold a yearling among the two high-sellers during each of the three sessions.
There was a late addition to the Saturday night results. Not A Tres Of Fear sold for $200,000 to R.D. Hubbard, Johnny Cope, Butch Southway and Ray Willis. The Tres Seis-sired colt is a half-brother to world champion Heza Dasha Fire, champion Ima Fearless Hero and stakes winner Heza Fearless Dasher. He was consigned by Burns Ranch, agent for S-Quarter K, LLC.
