L Bar D Sweet Fantsy Tops Sun Downs Distaff Challenge Qualifiers

The 4-year-old Fantastic Corona Jr mare won the first of two 400-yard trials on Sunday.

The $15,000-added Merial Sun Downs Distaff Challenge final will be run May 8.

Hernan Torres' L Bar D Sweet Fantsy won the first of two 400-yard Merial Sun Downs Distaff Challenge trials on Sunday, and the 4-year-old Oregon-bred mare is the fastest qualifier to the $15,000-added final on May 8.

Prepped by Hector Magallanes and ridden by Jake Samuels, L Bar D Sweet Fantsy defeated third-fastest qualifier by a clear 3 3/4 lengths in :20.435. The mare's win was her fifth in 16 starts, and it pushed her earnings to $14,510.

L Bar D Sweet Fantsy was bred by Darrell and Linda Sanders. In 2014, she qualified to two futurities in Oregon, including the Grants Pass Firecracker Futurity.
