Edited press release
Bryon Gardner's Kitty Kat Galore B will seek her second stakes victory of the current meet in Saturday's 400-yard, $26,100 Merial Texas Distaff Challenge Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park.
A 4-year-old mare by champion FDD Dynasty, Kitty Kat Galore B drew post 3 and will be ridden by Rodrigo Vallejo for trainer Judd Kearl. She is coming off of a neck victory as the 7-5 favorite in the 330-yard, $20,000 Miss Sam Houston Stakes (R) for Texas-bred distaffers on April 1.
Kearl feels Kitty Kat Galore B will be even better at this longer distance.
"The longer the better," Kearl said. "She's a great big filly, and she came into her own late in her 2-year-old campaign. Her biggest strength is her heart. She tries hard every time.
"I thought we were beat 30 yards from the wire in the Miss Sam Houston, but she dug in," added the trainer.
The winner of this race will earn a starting berth in the October 29, $125,000 Merial Distaff Challenge Championship (G1) at Los Alamitos. The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments and morning-line odds:
Vital Temp (Luis Vivanco), 4-1
Sure Fire Flyer (Pedro C. Espinosa), 12-1
Kitty Kat Galore B (Rodrigo Vallejo), 9-5
Time For Wine (Francisco Calderon), 3-1
Lil Effortless Reign (Noe Villatoro), 20-1
Shiner Blond (Raul Gutierrez), 6-1
N Bee C (Cipriano Vidana), 10-1
Cabana Girl (Luciano Duenez), 15-1
