North Pine Special is the fastest qualifier to the August 21 John Deere Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge.

North Pine Special, a son of 2003 world champion Oak Tree Special, won the second of three John Deere Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge trials on Sunday, and the gelding is the fastest qualifier to the August 21, $18,500-added final.

Ridden by Juan Apango, North Pine Special covered 350 yards in :18.348 while defeating second-fastest qualifier Honor The Fast Man by a neck and scoring his second win in three starts. Allen Goodsell prepped the gelding for owners Shylo Penrod and Teagan Goodsell.

North Pine Special was bred in Alberta by Donalda M. Cochrane. His dam, Hawks Halo, is an 11-year-old daughter of champion Hawkinson who won the '08 Canada Cup Derby (RG3) at Lethbridge.
