Sorelli Scores in Emerald Challenge Championship

The 4-year-old mare earns her first stakes win on Sunday.

Sorelli scored a neck victory in Sunday's Bank of America Emerald Challenge Championship.

Eswan Flores rode Sorelli to a neck victory in Sunday's 440-yard, $59,760 Bank of America Emerald Challenge Championship at Emerald Downs.

Saddled by Roddina Barrett for owners Warlock Stable and Kelly Dougan, Sorelli made her quarter-mile trip in :21.794 and earned a 101 speed index. The 4-year-old mare earned $27,490 and a berth in the $350,000 Bank of America Challenge Championship (G1) at Los Alamitos on October 29.

Sorelli was bred in Oklahoma by A.J. Renner. The mare's sire, the First Down Dash stallion Brookstone Bay, won the 2004 First Down Dash Handicap (G3) at Los Alamitos.

Sorelli's dam, Cupids Special Fly, is a winning homebred 16-year-old mare by Strawfly Special. Sorelli has won six of 17 races and has banked $50,080, and her resume includes a second-place finish in the May 8, 400-yard Merial Sun Downs Distaff Challenge.

Stella Corona finished second and was followed by Klassic Secret Br, Rtm Mr Caccia, 7-5 favorite James First Affair, Bh Country Chrome, Lebron 6, Hes A Bugin, My Best Bunny Yet, and Quematierras.
