Charles G. Stojan's Toughie won Sunday's Adequan Evergreen Park Derby Challenge.

Charles G. Stojan's Toughie rolled to a neck victory in Sunday's $27,001 Adequan Evergreen Park Derby Challenge.

Making her fifth start in Canada and sent to post as the odds-on choice in the six-horse field, Toughie went 400 yards in :20.125. Ricardo Moreno rode the chestnut filly by Stel Corona for trainer William Leech.

Toughie was bred in California by Ed Allred. Toughie's dam, the winning 10-year-old Hawkish mare Hard Lining, was a finalist in the 2009 Los Alamitos Winter Derby (G1).

Toughie has won six of eight starts, including four of five in Canada, and she has earned $102,468. The filly won last year's 400-yard, $60,262 Canada Cup Futurity (RG3) at Lethbridge, and she was a finalist in Walk Thru Crystal's Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) at Los Alamitos.

In addition to banking the $12,960 winner's share of the purse from Sunday's victory, Toughie landed a berth in the $200,000 Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G2) at Los Alamitos on October 29.

Flybye 109 ran second and was followed by Er Cafe, Shes Gotta Reason, Hrh Tres Royale, and My Mr Millionaire.
