The Fiscal Cliff Headlines Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge Trials

The homebred colt will be making his Ruidoso debut on Friday.

A total of 19 3-year-olds have been entered in Friday's Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge trials.

Tom Lepic's The Fiscal Cliff, a homebred bay son of Pyc Paint Your Wagon trained by Kasey Willis, is one of 19 sophomores entered in Friday's 400-yard Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge trials at Ruidoso Downs.

The Fiscal Cliff will be making his Ruidoso Downs debut from post 5 in the first of two trials. The colt has earned $220,033 from nine starts, and he ended his 2-year-old campaign with a six-race win streak that included two futurity wins at Prairie Meadows and the 350-yard, $100,000 Heritage Place Juvenile Invitational Stakes (R) at Remington Park.

Cesar Gomez will ride The Fiscal Cliff on Friday. The colt's eight opponents in the first heat include Birrell Farms' BF Fooserageous, a homebred daughter of champion Foose who is coming off of a second-place finish in the May 1, 400-yard West Texas Derby (G3) at Sunland Park. Trained by Wes Giles, the multiple stakes winning filly drew post 6 and will be ridden by Adrian Ramos.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $60,000-est. Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge final on July 2.
