For Sweet Jess is Prompt Favorite in Sun Downs Derby Challenge
The 7-5 favorite scores a wire-to-wire victory on Saturday.

Ruben Magallanes' For Sweet Jess, a gray son of One Sweet Jess trained by Hector Magallanes, scored a wire-to-wire victory in Saturday's $25,380 Adequan Sun Downs Derby Challenge Stakes at Sun Downs.
Under jockey Eduardo Gutierrez-Sosa, For Sweet Jess completed his 400-yard trip in :20.115 while defeating Magic Moment Blues by a clear two lengths. In addition to earning the $11,675 winner's share of the purse, the gelding landed a starting berth in the October 29, $200,000 Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G3) at Los Alamitos Racecourse in southern California.
For Sweet Jess was bred in Arizona by K & R Allred Ranch Inc. His sire, One Sweet Jess, is an 8-year-old son of champion Mr Jess Perry who won the 2010 Golden State Million Futurity (G1) at Los Alamitos.
For Sweet Jess has won seven of 11 races, including all three of his outs this season, and he has banked $75,723. He has won three stakes, and his resume includes a second-place finish in last year's 350-yard, $151,250 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2) at Lone Star Park.
One Runaway Opener finished third, 2 1/2 lengths behind For Sweet Jess. Katies Easy Moves, Wait, El Guapo Enano, CM Secretsinthestraw, First N Final, Stella Corona, and Pappas In The House completed the order of finish.
