A dozen sophomores have been entered in Saturday's Adequan Sun Downs Derby Challenge trials.

Long Lost Buddy, a gelded son of Favorite Cartel and a multiple stakes winner last year, is one of a dozen 3-year-olds entered in Saturday’s 400-yard Adequan Sun Downs Derby Challenge trials at Sun Downs.

Long Lost Buddy is trained by Mark Hanson for owners RTM Stables LLC, Ben McKinney and Richard Gardner. The gelding ended his 2-year-old campaign with a three-race winning streak that included the 330-yard Rocky Mountain Classic Futurity at Pocatello Downs, and the 350-yard, $119,000 Bitterroot Futurity (R) at Sandy Downs.

Long Lost Buddy drew post 3 and will be ridden by Eddie Aceves in the second of two trials. The gelding’s five opponents in the second heat include Hillary Durham’s L Bar D Genuine Red, a Genuine Strawfly gelding trained by Robert Beckner. L Bar D Genuine Red has earned $29,822 from eight outs, and his three wins include a one-length victory as the fastest qualifier in the 350-yard, $32,000 Far West Futurity (R) at Portland Meadows.

L Bar D Genuine Red will be ridden by Kassie Guglielmino from the rail post.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $15,000-added Adequan Sun Downs Derby Challenge on May 6.
