Rock Solid Jess Gelding Tops John Deere Texas Juvenile Challenge Qualifiers

Black Onyx, a gelded son of Rock Solid Jess owned by Holly Hooper, is the fastest qualifier to the May 20, $35,000-added John Deere Texas Juvenile Challenge (G3) at Sam Houston Race Park.

Racing in the first of seven 350-yard trials on Friday, Black Onyx defeated eighth-fastest qualifier He Win It by three-quarters of a length in :18.051. Jose Martinez rode the gelding for trainer Angel Sanchez.

Black Onyx has won both of his outs, including a 250-yard, $7,600 maiden-special-weight dash for Texas-breds at Sam Houston on March 31.
