Reliance Ranches LLC's Flash N Bling sprinted to a three-quarter length win in Sunday's $75,780 Bank of America California Championship Challenge (G3) at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by Jesus Rios Ayala for trainer Mike Robbins and aided by a reported 5-mph tail wind, Flash N Bling covered 440 yards in :21.156 and recorded a 108 speed index. The 4-year-old old son of all-time leading sire First Down Dash earned $37,132 for his first stakes victory, and he landed a berth in the October 14, $330,000 Bank of America Challenge Championship (G1) at Prairie Meadows.

Flash N Bling was stretching out in distance off of a troubled eighth-place finish in the 400-yard, $163,000 Vessels Maturity (G1) on July 2.

“I was really high on this horse coming into this race,” Robbins said. “He was really doing good. He’s probably exceeded my expectations. I didn’t think he could go 440. He'd given us indications that he could, but tonight was really a game changer.

"He was getting stronger all the way down the racetrack," the trainer added. "The thing I was looking forward to in this race was no trials. This horse really runs better fresh. When he has to run trials and come back in two weeks, he seems to not perform as well as he does fresh.”

Flash N Bling was bred in Nebraska by Jim Streelman and Bill Dale. A $105,000 buy at the 2014 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, the gelding has won three of 19 starts and has earned $108,584.

Mr Pyc To You finished second and was followed by The Charm Of Corona, Justified, Jess A Cowboy, Luv On The Run, and Flying Jess.
