Don Webb's Jr Rock Star earned her first stakes victory in Tuesday's $33,750 Merial Canterbury Distaff Challenge at Canterbury Park.

Ridden by Brayan Velazquez for trainer Jason Olmstead, Jr Rock Star covered 400 yards in :20.246 while defeating Blacks Cartel by a head. The $15,525 winner's share of the purse boosted the 4-year-old sorrel mare's earnings to $55,943.

Jr Rock Star was stretching out in distance off of her third-place finish, a neck behind winner The Fiscal Cliff, in the 350-yard, $20,000 Skip Zimmerman Stakes on June 18.

"This mare has been real game," Olmstead said. "She tries her guts out every time."

Jr Rock Star was bred in Texas by Johnny Trotter and Burnett Ranches, and she is by Fantastic Corona Jr. The mare has won five of 14 outs while racing in Minnesota, Oklahoma, Iowa, and New Mexico.

Bye Bye Birdy, the 9-5 favorite, finished third and was followed by Corona Springs, Thrice Wise, My Girls Toasted, Marys Ice Dancer, Stelthy, Honeymoon Candy, and Fast Movin Fire.
