Long Lost Buddy won Saturday's Adequan Sun Downs Derby Challenge.

It took a double disqualification to do it, but Long Lost Buddy extended his winning streak to five in the 400-yard, $28,890 Adequan Sun Downs Derby Challenge on Saturday.

Genuine Version and L Bar D Genuine Red crossed the wire first and second, respectively, but after a stewards' inquiry Genuine Version was disqualified and placed 10th for breaking inward from the gate, and L Bar D Genuine Red was disqualified and placed seventh for racing greenly across the track and impeding several rivals. The double disqualifcation placed Long Lost Buddy, a brown son of Favorite Cartel trained by Mark Hanson for owners Rtm Stables LLC, Ben McKinney, and Richard Gardner, into the winner's circle.

Eddie Aceves rode Long Lost Buddy, who was clocked in :20.801. The gelding was bred by Dr. Steve Burns of Menifee, California, and he earned the $13,289 winner's share of the purse and a berth in the October 14, $180,000 Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G2) at Prairie Meadows.

Raced in Idaho and Washington, Long Lost Buddy has won five of six starts and has banked $71,716, and his current streak includes victories in the Bitterroot Futurity (R) at Sandy Downs and Rocky Mountain Spring Classic Futurity at Pocatello Downs.

Downside Embezzler, Seperate Flame, Flyin Rocks, Cm Woody Blue, L Bar D Genuine Red, Stellur, Sr Mighty Leader Jet, Mariota Man and Genuine Version completed the official order of finish.
