Ablurrforsure Shocks Merial Sun Downs Distaff Challenge

The homebred 4-year-old outruns her 31-1 odds on Sunday.

Tom Williams' Ablurrforsure outran her 31-1 odds to win Sunday's Merial Sun Downs Distaff Challenge Stakes.

Tom Williams' Ablurrforsure, a homebred 4-year-old daughter of the Strawfly Special stallion Im Alright Now trained by Joseph Sandoval, earned her first career stakes win in Sunday's $25,020 Merial Sun Downs Distaff Challenge Stakes.

Ridden by Jose Figueroa and sent to post at odds of 31-1 in the full field of 10 fillies and mares, Ablurrforsure covered 400 yards in :20.286 while defeating 17-1 longshot Gone Fast by a neck. The brown mare banked $11,509 and landed a berth in the Grade 1, $105,000 Merial Distaff Challenge Championship at Prairie Meadows in October.

Ablurrforsure was bred in Montana, and she made her season debut with a fourth-place finish in her trial on April 23. She has won four of 11 starts while racing in Idaho, Washington, Montana, and Wyoming, and has she has earned $18,148.

Ablurrforsure is out of Kaweahs Blurr, a homebred 21-year-old daughter of the Easy Jet stallion Kaweah Sunrise who won the Great Falls HRA Futurity in Montana in '98.

Klassic Secret Br, the 13-10 favorite, ran third, one length behind Ablurrforsure. Tic Tac Attack, Absolut Pride, Betrothen, Rtm Moonshine, Sorelli, Shez Sneakin Fast, and Mags Rambling Moon completed the order of finish.
