Fields Set for Prairie Meadows Challenge Finals

Three sets of regional Bank of America Challenge trials were contested at Prairie Meadows on Saturday.

On Saturday, the fields were set for the three September 16 Bank of America Racing Challenge finals at Prairie Meadows.

Rogelio Garza's Tlc Dale, a 4-year-old son of The Louisiana Cartel trained by Frank Raul Ramirez, is the fastest qualifier to the Grade 2, $60,000-added Bank of America Prairie Meadows Championship Challenge Stakes. Ridden by Raul Gutierrez, the gelding won the first of two trials by a neck in :21.556.

Tlc Dale was bred in Texas by his owner. The gelding has won six of 16 starts, including last year's Sam Houston Derby (G3), and he has earned $185,442.

Vallerro, a homebred Valiant Hero gelding owned by George L. Seward, recorded the fastest qualifying time to the $37,000-added John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge.

Prepped by John Hammes and ridden by Stormy Smith, Vallerro won the third of five 350-yard heats by one length in :17.576. The sorrel gelding was winning for the second time in three outs while making his first-ever start at Prairie Meadows.

Vallerro was bred in Colorado. His dam, the 14-year-old Mr Jess Perry mare Perrys Queen Bug, won two graded stakes from 2006-09, including the 2009 West Texas Maturity (G1) at Sunland Park.

Dauns First Desirio is the fastest qualifer to the $27,500-added Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge. Racing for Rogelio Carbajal Santos from the barn of trainer Julio Corral, the gelded son of Desirio won the last of three 400-yard trials by 2 1/2 lengths in :19.575.

Dauns First Desirio was bred in Texas by Dan and Jolene Urschel, and he has won three of nine starts and has banked $31,818, and his record includes a second-place finish in the August 12 Arapahoe Park Derby.
