Llano Cartel Moves Into Poll

Grade 1 winner joins ranks in AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com Poll.

Q-Racing Journal

Nellie Delaney continues to lead this week's racing poll.

Few horses have been as busy – or successful – as Llano Cartel in this young 2014 season. His victory in Saturday's Leo Stakes (G1) caught the eye of pollsters in this week's AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com National Poll. The 4-year-old Teller Cartel gelding shot all the way to No. 4 in the poll behind his third win in four starts on the season.
Unbeaten in two January allowance starts at Hialeah, Llano Cartel had ascended into stakes company to finish second by a nose in the Eastex Handicap (G2) at Remington before his breakout score this past Saturday. He has now posted five wins and two seconds from his last eight starts.
A second new face to the poll this week is I Azoomed You Knew, who debuts at No. 10. The sophomore, who made his first official start in January, rattled off his third win of the year by taking Saturday's West Texas Derby (G3) at Sunland Park. The son of Azoom completed a Top 10 list this week that continues to be led by Los Alamitos Winter Championship (G1) heroine Nellie Delaney. In fact, the top three competitors in the poll remained unchanged once again this week.

Pollsters evaluated only horses who have started at least once in 2014 to date. The AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com National Top 10 Poll is released every Wednesday through the end of the year. A separate poll for 2-year-olds will be added in late spring.
