Lin Melton, one of the leading Quarter Horse trainers in the nation, could reach the 1,500-win milestone this week at Los Alamitos. Melton is sitting at 1,499 wins after saddling Snow Checks to victory in Utah a couple of weeks ago.

The trainer could enjoy his milestone win when he saddles the red-hot Cook Up Cool in the sixth race at Los Alamitos on Friday night. Cook Up Cool has won her last two starts, both of them at Los Alamitos, for H and E Ranch, Inc. Eduardo Nicasio will pilot the John Andreini-bred filly by No Secrets Here.

Melton is one of top conditioners in the history of the Northwest region. Los Alamitos has been his home base in recent years and his local stables currently includes the stakes winner Dynasty Red and the multiple stakes finalist Smithy.  Since beginning his career in 1973, Melton’s runners have earned nearly $6 million. Stakes winners he has trained include Grade 1 winners Juno Dat Honor and Famous Chapelle, and Grade 2 winners Shes A Royal Flirt, Mr Deep Pockets, Royal Peepers and Famous Alibis. He also trained the multiple Grade 1 finalist and Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity runner-up Meteoric.

"Los Alamitos is a great place to run horse and the one thing you know is that there's racing here every single week," said Melton after moving his racing operation to Southern California.

Melton is not just a top trainer, he’s also an accomplished breeder of Quarters Horses. His homebred stakes winners included Fancy A Shag, Easy Misdemeanor and Paladium.
