The excitement for New Mexico-bred Quarter Horses was obvious when the yearling Quarter Horse section of the Ruidoso New Mexico-Bred Sale showed an amazing 53 percent gain per horse sold on Friday night by the Ruidoso Horse Sale Company at Ruidoso Downs.
The official average per horse sold was $14,639, as compared to $9,571 in 2013.
Topping the sale at $60,000 was Jess A Satin Flash, a son of First Moonflash and the stakes-placed Mr Jess Perry daughter Jess Satin. She qualified for the 2004 All American Futurity (G1) and has produced Restricted Grade 1 Zia Futurity winner Jess A Chicks and Restricted Grade 2 New Mexico Classic Futurity runner-up Jess A Satin Chicks.
Jess A Satin Flash was consigned by Double LL Farms and purchased by Don and Lane Reynolds.
The second high seller at $57,000 was James Bordeaux, a son of Jesse James Jr and the stakes-placed and stakes-placed producer Bridgette Bordeaux. This is one of the most prolific female families in New Mexico. The second dam, the stakes-placed Sandys Fame, produced stakes winner and $215,295 earner Sandys Jesse by Jesse James Jr. Sandys Fame is a half-sister to the dam of champion Alice K White and former world record holder Kendall Jackson.
James Bordeaux came out of the MJ Farms consignment and was bought by M&J Racing.
Four other horses brought more than $50,000. First Moonflash sired two of those yearlings, and the other two yearlings were offspring of Jesse James Jr and Winners Version.
A total of 33 horses brought $20,000 or more during the offering.
