Louisiana Downs has named Jason Beem to be its track announcer, effective with the start of the track’s Quarter Horse meet on January 10.

Beem most recently served as track announcer at Portland Meadows. A native of Renton, Washington, he has degrees in English and Sociology from the University of Washington in Seattle.

Beem is also an author, as his first book, Southbound, was published last March. He also served as track announcer at River Downs in Cincinnati.

“I’m so thrilled to be joining the team at Louisiana Downs,” Beem said. “It’s a track with great history and great racing. It’s also an honor to get the chance to call races in a booth that has housed some of the top announcers in our business.”

Louisiana Downs’ winter Quarter Horse meet runs through March 25. Live racing will be offered on a Saturday-Tuesday schedule, with first post time set for 1 p.m. (CST) daily.
