Dash Master Miss has been awarded the prestigious Dam of Distinction award by AQHA.

The Dam of Distinction award recognizes the accomplishments of racing broodmares. To qualify for the award, a mare must meet one or more of the following criteria:

• Produce two or more individual AQHA racing champions.
• Produce at least three individual Grade 1 stakes winners.
• Produce at least two foals ranked in the top-10 money-earners of any particular year, as of December 31 of that year, and two G1 stakes winners.
• Produce at least three foals that were in the top-10 money-earners of any particular year, as of December 31 of that year.

When the award was created, a grandfather clause also allowed mares that had produced at least three individual stakes winners prior to 1983. Those wins were considered the equivalent of a G1-quality race, to be accepted. To date, there are only 47 mares that have received the award.

Dash Master Miss is owned by Gus Barakis’ Scarlett Hill Farm Inc. of Weatherford, Texas. The 1989 mare was bred by AQHA Past President Jim Helzer of Arlington, Texas, and is by Dash For Destiny and out of the Master Hand (TB) mare Uno Mas Tiempo.

Dash Master Miss won or placed in 22 of 31 career starts and earned $249,430. She won six stakes, including the 1992 Kansas Derby (G1) and was placed in three more stakes, including the 1993 Champion of Champions (G1).

The sorrel mare has produced 23 starters, with 20 of them returning as winners to date and six of them returning as stakes winners. She has cumulative progeny earnings of $1,994,763. Dash Master Miss earned the Dam of Distinction award by producing three individual Grade 1 winners: Significant Speed, Push The Pace and Lil Famous Dash. Lil Famous Dash on November 15 won the Texas Classic Derby (G1), which earned Dash Master Miss her honor.

Among Dash Master Miss’ progeny are champion Significant Speed ($517,605), Push The Pace ($513,119), Dash Master Jess ($275,697), Lil Famous Dash ($141,527), Significant Cartel ($132,333) and Front Running Speed ($73,542).

Prior to Dash Master Miss, Veva Jean was named a Dam of Distinction last month.
