Former Claimer Rockets Up National Polls

JRC Callas First finds a foothold in the racing poll.

Q-Racing Journal

JRC Callas First has found a place in the AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com Poll.

JRC Callas First, who raced primarily in maiden and claiming races in 2013, continues his national ascension this season following a victory in the $150,480 Zia Park Championship (G1). The gelding, owned by Dana and Brian Stroud, earned his seventh consecutive win (and 8-for-9 record on the year), which landed him at No. 5 this week in the latest AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com National Poll for 3-year-olds and older. Among those in his wake at Zia Park was Bank of America Racing Challenge Championship (G1) winner Stimulus, who fell this week to No. 6.

With three polls remaining on the year, Moonist continues to pace the older-horse division, garnering 106 of a possible 110 points in the balloting. The race for the season's top-ranked elder could be decided December 28 in the $350,000 Championship at Sunland Park (G1).

As for the 2-year-old rankings this week, Heza Dasha Fire continues as the unanimous No. 1 with no change at the top of the poll as he awaits the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity (G1) on December 14. Two newcomers entered the juvenile scene this week with Gold Digging Ashley at No. 8 and JLS Dashn And Zoomn rounding out the poll at No. 10. Gold Digging Ashley pulled off an upset of No. 5-ranked Mad About The Moon in Sunday’s $200,000 Southwest Juvenile Championship (G1) at Zia Park for her second-straight stakes win. Meanwhile, fastest qualifier JLS Dashn And Zoomn hit the jackpot in the $1 million LQHBA Breeders Futurity (RG1) at Evangeline Downs to go 4-for-8 on the season, parlaying those credentials into a spot in this week's poll.
