Italia Gold is one of two champions produced by dam of distinction Jusjumpin.

The late Gianni Franco Samaja’s Jusjumpin joins a rare class of American Quarter Horse mares, as she has become the newest AQHA Dam of Distinction. She joins only 45 other mares to receive the award.

The award recognizes the accomplishments of racing broodmares. To qualify for the award, a mare must meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Dams that produced two or more individual AQHA racing champions
  • Dams that produced at least three individual Grade 1 stakes winners
  • Dams that produced at least two foals ranked in the top 10 money earners of any particular year, as of December 31 of that year, and two G1 stakes winners
  • Dams that produced at least three foals that were in the top 10 money earners of any particular year, as of December 31 of that year.

When the award was created, a grandfather clause also allowed mares that had produced at least three individual stakes winners prior to 1983, and those wins were the equivalent of a G1-quality race, to be accepted.

Jusjumpin was foaled in 1995, a cross of leading sire Chicks Beduino and the champion Tolltac mare Jumping Tac Flash. The gray mare was bred by John Andreini of San Mateo, California and was purchased as a yearling by Samaja of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The mare raced three times, with a top speed index of 76.

She is the first foal out of her champion dam, and is a sibling to champion and sire Carters Cartel (by Corona Cartel, $659,146), Grade 1 winner and sire Tac It Like A Man (by First Down Dash, $417,763), Grade 1-placed Flash First (by First Down Dash, $351,719), stakes winner Imjumpn (by First Down Dash, $56,495), stakes-placed runners A Tac First (by First Down Dash, $88,793) and Tac Off (by Strawfly Special, $12,931).

Jusjumpin has nine foals, four of which have made official starts. They include 2011 South American champion Fantastic For Me (by Corona For Me) and 2013 South American champion Italia Gold (by Gold Medal Jess).

Prior to Jusjumpin, the most recent Dam of Distinction was Fearless Freda in 2013.
