Los Al Cancels Weekend Races

Los Alamitos cancels racing over weekend due to rain.

Press Release

Los Alamitos has cancelled racing over the weekend.

Los Alamitos Race Course cancelled live racing for the weekend of February 28 through March 2 following a heavy storm that soaked the Southland overnight and through early Friday morning.

According to weather.com, there is a 100 percent chance of rain on Friday night in the Los Alamitos area with thunder also on the forecast. The storm, which has already dropped about two inches of rain, is expected to continue throughout the day on Saturday.

"Due to this heavy rain, we are erring on the side of caution and safety for the jockeys and horses," said track spokesman Brad McKinzie. "The track is safe, but we are playing it very conservatively because a lot more rain is expected this weekend. The track will be open for training on Saturday morning."

This is the first time that Los Alamitos has cancelled live racing due to rain since a torrential downpour walloped the Los Angeles and Orange County in December 19, 2010.

Los Alamitos will be open for daytime simulcasting over the weekend. For more information, please call 714-820-2690.
