A pair of special events at North Dakota Horse Park will give racing fans a ‘Daily Double’ to salute heroes within our community while raising awareness for a cure for cancer.

Sunday, July 20, North Dakota Horse Park with be “Racing for a Cause”, designed to educate and acknowledge people on all types of cancer. Special silks (each color representing a different type of cancer) will be worn by jockeys during two races. The silks will be auctioned off at the end of the day. Silks were purchased through donations from area businesses that will have their company’s name featured on each set of racing silks. Live auction and silent auction items will also be on display as patrons will be able to support the cause on the meet’s second day of live racing.  All proceeds will benefit the Rein in Cancer Foundation.

To date, Rein in Cancer, a entity made up exclusively with volunteers, has raised over $1 million in the fight against cancer.  More information can be found at www.reinincancer.com.

The following weekend on July 26, the Horse Park will be honoring members of the military with a Horses and Heroes promotion.

Through sponsorships from local businesses, select servicemen and women will receive free admission and special recognition will be given to those heroes throughout the day.

“It’s a great way for our local merchants to say thanks and invite them and their families to spend a day with us at the Horse Park,” General Manager Mike Schmitz said. “We all continue to enjoy the great freedom we have because of their brave service each and every day.”
