Heza Dasha Fire Lights Up Poll

Ed Burke winner rockets up the racing poll.

Q-Racing Journal

The juvenile poll sees a new contender near the top.

Following a dominant and fast victory in Sunday’s Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1), Heza Dasha Fire made a major impression on pollsters in this week's AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com National Poll for 2-year-olds. The Walk Thru Fire gelding debuted in the rankings at No. 2 this week after notching his third straight victory without a loss.

Two-time major futurity finals winner Kiss My Hocks, hero of the Sam Houston Futurity (G2) and Ruidoso Futurity (G1), remains atop the juvenile rankings this week. But Heza Dasha Fire served notice that the West Coast could have a major say as the season unfolds. He has won his three starts by 5 1/4 combined lengths and each by at least 1 1/4 lengths. The balance of this week's Top 10 juveniles remained unchanged.

The body of the Top 10 older horses in their divisional poll did not change this week, but pollsters made a significant adjustment near the top. Bon Accord, winner of the Remington Park Invitational Championship (G1), has leapfrogged the long-idle Nellie Delaney into the No. 2 spot behind poll leader Rock You. Nellie Delaney has been absent since her February 16 Los Alamitos Winter Championship (G1) victory. She had spent 14 weeks atop the rankings until being supplanted by Ruidoso Derby (G1) winner Rock You in the June 11 poll.
