Benefit Fundraisers for Anne Von Rosen

Benefits for injured jockey Anne Von Rosen, hero jockey Rudolfo Arvizu to be honored.

Funds have been established for injured jockey Anne Von Rosen.

Jockey Anne Von Rosen was critically injured on March 11 at Turf Paradise when her horse fell, resulting in a serious spinal injury and paralysis of her legs. She has undergone two surgeries.

Since 2001, Von Rosen has ridden 56 winners from 507 starters in American Quarter Horse races, with earnings of $398,274. Among the horses she has ridden are stakes winners Mr Hawkins, Dakota Lane and Dashing By By.

Jockey Rudolfo Arvizu was behind the incident and saw everything. Without any regard for his own safety, he jumped from his mount and got the horse off Anne and released her foot that was caught in the stirrup.

"I hope all of you will join with the horseman's organizations and Turf Paradise in honoring Rudolfo for these heroic actions," Loretta Brasher, Executive Director of AQRA said. "He will be given the Arizona Horseman's Benevolent And Protective Humanitarian Award on Wednesday evening at Turf Paradise. The public is cordially invited to attend the function at 6 p.m. on the lawn under the tent at the racetrack. Dinner will be served."

Those wishing to help Von Rosen directly may send donation checks made out to Turf Paradise Foundation and mark the memo line Anne Von Rosen. All donations are tax deductible.

The address is:

Turf Paradise
1501 West Bell Rd.
Phoenix, AZ 85023

A benefit auction and bake sale on behalf of Von Rosen has been set for April 26 following the live racing card. Brasher is asking for volunteers to help with the bake sale goods.

"Homemade pies, cakes, cookies and fudge will sell good at live auctions," she said.

Baked goods items for the auction may be dropped off with Bucky Huff, the horseman's bookkeeper, with Brasher at the AQRA office, or with Wendy at the HBPA.

"Anne is resting now as her body is trying to heal from the tremendous trauma," Brasher said. "I hope everyone can attend this event, she is going to need as much as we can raise for this long road to recovery."

In addition, on Fan Appreciation Day, on April 12, a “Walk for Anne” fundraiser is scheduled. Fans can purchase either a bracelet or t-shirt and then walk with the local jockey colony on the turf course. All proceeds will benefit Von Rosen.
