With the close of the Hialeah meet in late February, the Florida Quarter Horse Racing Association handed out its state-bred awards to Florida-bred American Quarter Horses.

Named the champion of the meet, Max Cartel (Streakin Six Cartel-Rare Koyah by Rare Form) was also the 2013-14 2-year-old champion Florida-bred gelding (foals of 2011). Starting four times while at Hialeah, including two trials and two stakes finals, he won the $40,000 El Nino Invitational Stakes. He earned $43,332 in purse money at Hialeah. Max Cartel is a homebred for Kathleen O. Matey and was trained by Judd S. Kearl, and ridden to his stakes victory by Rodrigo Vallejo. On top of the purse money, he also earned an additional $12,321 in Florida-bred award money for Matey and $3,080.25 for his sire, accredited Florida stallion Streakin Six Cartel.

Streakin Six Cartel

With his first crop to race and only seven progeny racing at Hialeah, STREAKIN SIX CARTEL, swept the entire 2-year-old division (foals of 2011), earning him $9,497.56 in Accredited Florida Stallion Awards. Those seven horses include two stakes winners, and all seven qualified and competed in futurities and/or derbies while at Hialeah, included TMF Cash Cartel that qualified for the much contested $406,995 Hialeah Futurity on his very first out.

Our champion owner hails from Canada, and raced Florida-bred champion 2-year-old colt Eye Go Streakin. Linda McCleery of Paisley, Ontario, picked up an additional $7,375.12 in owner awards. MLP From The Inside Inc. is also a partner on accredited champion Florida stallion First Down Straw.

Flying Fisch Farm Inc.

The rolling hills of Flying Fisch Farm, Inc. in North Florida were the birthplace for 10 accredited Florida-breds running at Hialeah this meet, including Tsunami 09 and Eye Go Streakin. Those 10 horses earned $14,126.46 in Florida-bred award money for Flying Fisch Farm Inc.
