One Valiant Hero Moves Into National Rankings

Oklahoma Derby winner carves out a spot in the poll.

The Racing Poll welcomes a newcomer this week.

Saturday's $200,000 Oklahoma Derby victory at Remington Park propelled One Valiant Hero to a No. 4 ranking in this week's AQHA National Poll for older horses. The sophomore son of Valiant Hero notched his second win on the season without defeat and was the poll's lone newcomer of the week.

One Valiant Hero gained notoriety last year by winning the All American Juvenile Invitational (R) at Ruidoso Downs on Labor Day after narrowly missing qualifying for the All American Futurity (G1) final. He's now won five of 11 career starts for earnings of $199,093.

Los Alamitos Winter Championship (G1) heroine Nellie Delaney continues her life at the top this week, garnering 106 out of a possible 110 points in the balloting. She’s pursued closest by TF Featured Effort (92) and Viva Mi Corazon (88) before a significant point drop to the new No. 4, One Valiant Hero (53).

Pollsters evaluated only horses who have started at least once in 2014 to date, gathering the first of the season's weekly rankings. The AQHA National Top 10 Poll is released every Wednesday through the end of the year, and a separate poll for 2-year-olds is added annually in late spring.
