Hard Hitting Gelding Tops Day 2 of RUI Training Races

Youngsters practice in training races at Ruidoso Downs.

Press Release

Training races at Ruidoso Downs continue through Wednesday.

Bobby Simmons' Hit With Force fought through a headwind to record the quickest time from a dozen 300-yard schooling races at Ruidoso Downs on Tuesday morning.

A gelding by Hard Hitting and Forced To Win by Major Rime, Hit With Force was timed in :15.674 for trainer Jackie Riddle. The New Mexico-bred Hit With Force had experience on his side while the overwhelming majority of schooling race competitors are non-starters. He had a troubled sixth-place finish against state-breds in a Sunland Park maiden race on March 14. The youngster is eligible to enter the Mountain Top Futurity (RG3) trials on May 30. The 10-fastest runners from those trials are eligible to return in the $350,000-est. Mountain Top Futurity on June 14.

Hit With Force was a $2,700 purchase at the Ruidoso New Mexico-bred Sale last summer and could prove to be a bargain this summer at Ruidoso Downs.

During a morning filled with 15-20 mph headwinds, the horses with the next nine quickest times were Abundanz (:15.843), Time To Runaway (:15.868), Myoceanmemory (:15.900), IC Southern Dash Guy (:15.946), JM Onfire (:15.958), Apolliticalsignature (:16.006), Tac It On Tigger (:16.010), Glock (:16.017) and Torque (:16.022).

Taped videos of each schooling race are available at www.raceruidoso.com.

The schooling races continue on Wednesday, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The summer racing season begins on May 22 with the first of two days of trials to the Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity. The schooling races are well timed as a final serious preparation for the Ruidoso Futurity participants, especially the non-starters.
