Mary Anne Baron Named Hazel Park Racing Secretary

Quarter Horses to run at Hazel Park.

With the close of Mt. Pleasant Meadows, Hazel Park will race Quarter Horses this summer.

Hazel Park Raceway in suburban Detroit has named Mary Anne Barron to be its racing secretary for its 32-day mixed meet, which runs June 29-October 11.

Barron was part of the management team that helped open Great Lakes Downs in Muskegon, Michigan, and served as that track’s racing secretary in 2007, its final season. Her recent experience also includes a stint as office manager for the Michigan Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association.

In addition, Barron has been an owner and trainer in the Midwest, especially Michigan, and she trained Thoroughbreds at Hazel Park prior to its conversion to a full-time harness venue 30 years ago.

Construction is underway at Hazel Park to resurface the track for Thoroughbred, Quarter Horse, and Arabian racing. The barn area is expected to be open by June 9, and the track is scheduled to open for training the following day.
