New Pick Four Record at Los Al
Derby excitement leads to new wagering mark at California track.

The excitement of local hero California Chrome’s victory in the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday afternoon spilled over to the night racing program at Los Alamitos, as the early Pick Four pool was an all-time record of $172,805. The previous record of $160,073 was set on Sunday, February 10, 2013.
The late Pick Four handled $106,414 on Saturday night to make the combined total in the Los Alamitos Pick Fours an all-time record of $279,219. The previous mark of $272,241 was set last year on February 17.
The weekend figures also featured a $130,145 early Pick Four handle on Friday, May 2. Sunday’s racing program will feature trials to the Kindergarten Futurity (G2), the first futurity of the 2014 Quarter Horse season at the California track.
Los Alamitos offers two Pick Fours each racing night. The early Pick Four consists of races one through four. The late Pick Four consists of the final four races on the card. The late Pick Fours have been outstanding and the average pools have now reached as high as $100,000 per night.
