Turf Paradise Closes With Attendance, Handle Up

Phoenix track closes with gains in attendance and handle.


Turf Paradise saw gains during the recently-concluded meet.

Turf Paradise Racetrack in Phoenix ended its 152-day meet on Sunday, as the track registered increases in attendance and handle.

All sources handle at Turf Paradise reached $269,600,716, up 2 percent over the $264,362,835 wagered during the track’s 2012-13 season. Attendance increased 4 percent to 279,967, marking the fifth consecutive year that Turf Paradise registered an increase in on-track attendance.

The meet’s richest Quarter Horse race, the May 2, $68,637 Desert Classic Futurity (R), was won by Amanda Casper’s Magical Righter. Julian Serrano rode the brown daughter of the Chicks Beduino stallion Righter for trainer Eliazar Salas.

Turf Paradise’s 2014-15 meet opens October 18.
