Jess A Cowboy is the first stakes winner for sire Dejon.

The Mr Jess Perry stallion Dejon got his first stakes winner on Sunday when Jess A Cowboy romped home in the $25,987 Arizona QRA Futurity (R).

Jess A Cowboy is owned by Larry Stark, who bred the horse in partnership with Phyllis Stark, and has now won two of four starts and earned $22,219. The gelding is out of the Canth mare Secret Return. Another Dejon son, One Hot Dejon, was second.

Dejon is a 13-year-old son of leading sire Mr Jess Perry out of the Dash For Cash mare My Dashing Lady. My Dashing Lady is a dam of distinction and the 2008 broodmare of the year, making Dejon a full brother to champion Noconi ($1,348,900) and a three-quarter brother to champion Brenda Beautiful (by Feature Mr Jess, $336,624).

The stallion won five of 12 starts, with two seconds and one third, and earned $56,661. He was second in the 2003 Ghosts and Goblins Handicap and was a finalist in the 2004 All American Derby (G1).

The sorrel stallion is owned by Juan Carlos Moraga of Somerton, Arizona, and from 22 starters has sired nine winners with earnings of more than $129,000. He stands at Mountain States Equine in Hobbs, New Mexico.
