Pollsters Endorse Lone Star Winners

Texas Classic winners both jump into the polls.

Q-Racing Journal

Texas Classic horses jumped straight into the poll mix.

Saturday night’s big winners at Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie each earned spots in this week’s latest AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com National Polls. Following respective 12-1 upset wins in the Texas Classic Futurity (G1) and Derby (G1), Torts On Fire and Lil Famous Dash worked their way into the rankings.

Torts On Fire debuted in the rankings for 2-year-olds at No. 6 this week following his score in Saturday’s $860,519 Texas Classic Futurity. Despite being carried out at the start in a chain reaction, the gelded son of Walk Thru Fire was able to break his maiden in the rich final for trainer Trey Wood and owners Terry and Irene Stennett.

Pollsters also voted Lil Famous Dash No. 8 in this week’s rankings of 3-year-olds and older. Lil Famous Dash upset Houdini, the 6-5 favorite who dropped one spot to No. 5 this week, and others in Saturday’s $291,868 Texas Classic Derby final. The Judd Kearl-trained filly, bred and raced by Scarlett Hill Farm Inc., is now 2-1-1 in her five-race campaign this year.

There were no major changes at the top of the respective polls, led once again this week by Heza Dasha Fire among the juveniles and Moonist among the older horses.
