The stars are always big and bright on Bank of America Challenge Championships night, but they will have help next year when the championships return to Texas and Lone Star Park.
Lone Star Park, located in Grand Prairie in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex, has been a familiar host of the Challenge Championships. This will be the fifth time the track has hosted the event, putting it behind only Los Alamitos Race Course as the most frequent location. The last time Lone Star Park hosted the event was in 2006.
The Bank of America Challenge Championships are the pinnacle of the Challenge season. Horses qualify to the event through win-and-you’re-in regional races held in the United States, Canada, Mexico and South America. The six championship races offer more than $1 million in purses and prizes on Championship night, and frequently feature eventual year-end championship winners.
A date for the 2015 event will be announced in the near future.
“Lone Star Park is a world-class facility, and we are excited to have the Championships return there,” said AQHA Executive Director of Racing Trey Buck. “The track has always been a great host, and its top-quality fall meet will be enhanced with another great night of championship racing.”
Los Alamitos is a 10-time host of the event, Lone Star has hosted the event four times and Prairie Meadows twice. Other racetracks that have played host to the Challenge Championships once each are Evangeline Downs, Fair Grounds, Retama Park, Sam Houston Race Park, Sunland Park and Turf Paradise.
