Hawkinson Returns to California

Leading stallion will stand at EG High Desert Farms.


Hawkinson has sired the earners of more than $10.1 million.

Champion and champion sire Hawkinson has returned to California for the 2015 breeding season where he will stand at his owner's EG High Desert Farms near Temecula. His fee has not been announced.

Hawkinson sired his 34th stakes winner on Saturday when BF Farm Boss SI 95 won the $375,000 PCQHRA Breeders' Futurity (G2) at Los Alamitos Race Course. The 2-year-old colt has won five of seven starts this season and earned $231,005.

Owned and raced by EG High Desert Farms, Hawkinson won or placed 18 of 28 career starts while earning $448,299. Named champion aged stallion in 2001, he won the Los Alamitos Winter Championship (G1) and Go Man Go Handicap (G1), was second in the QHBC Championship Classic (G2) and third in The Championship at Sunland Park (G1), Spencer Childers California Breeders' Championship (RG1) and El Primero Del Ano Derby (G2).

From 10 crops to race, Hawkinson has sired 341 winners (61%) and 67 stakes horses (12%) with total earners of $10.1 million with average earnings per starter of $18,153. Among the leading sires each season, his top performers include two-time champion Strawkins SI 108 ($614,156, Rainbow Quarter Horse Derby-G1, etc.), PCQHRA Breeders' Futurity (G1) winner Sixish SI 114 ($530,505), Los Alamitos Championship (G1) winner Sparky E Boy SI 111 ($352,224), Golden State Derby (G1) winner Startlet Hawk SI 110 ($250,714), Grade 3 winner BF Farm Boy SI 106 (10 wins to 6, 2014 $236,255), PCQHRA Breeders' Futurity (G2) winner BF Farm Boss SI 95 (5 wins in 7 starts at 2, $231,005), Mildred N.
