Gillespie Co. Fair names leading horsemen.

The Gillespie Co. Fair closed its meet on August 24.

Jerimiah W. West was the leading owner during the eight-day mixed meet at the Gillespie Co. Fairgrounds, which ended August 24.

West won with all four of his starters. Alvin Wong, Leopolda Vera, Edith A. Mojica, and Basilio Lozano all finished in a four-way tie for second with two winners each.

Jimmy Guerra Jr. and Roberto G. Madrigal tied for leading trainer honors with five wins apiece. Guerra started 28 horses during the meet, while Madrigal started 41. Damian Martinez was the Gillespie meet’s leading jockey with 12 wins from 59 starters, one more than runner-up Luis Vivanco.

The meet’s richest race, the 350-yard, $128,250 Gillespie County Fair Futurity on closing day, was won by Levian, a brown daughter of First Prize Perry racing for Victor H. Perez. Ivan Carnero rode the Oklahoma-bred filly for trainer Fidel Perez.
