Jockey Rodrigo Aceves Injured at Los Al

Top rider was injured during trials to the PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity.

Press Release

Jockey Rodrigo Aceves suffered a neck fracture but had movement in his arms and legs after a spill at Los Alamitos.

Jockey Rodrigo Aceves fractured his neck but is conscious, alert and able to move his arms and legs after hitting the ground during the third race on Sunday at Los Alamitos. Aceves remains hospitalized for further examination at Los Alamitos Medical Center as of Monday morning.

Aceves hit the ground when his mount, the 2-year-old Bigtime Bonnies, clipped heels during the running of the third trial to the PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity (G2). The gelding by Bigtime Favorite did not fall and continued to run to the finish line. Bigtime Bonnies walked away from the incident under his own power.

Aceves is one of the all-time leading Quarter Horse jockeys at Los Alamitos. He currently ranks sixth all-time in Quarter Horse wins with 1,736. He has won over 80 Quarter Horse races at Los Alamitos in his riding career, including the Governor’s Cup Futurity (RG2) on Discontent earlier this year.
