Press release

The Minnesota Racing Commission has approved a 69-day Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse meet for 2016.

The Minnesota Racing Commission on Thursday approved a 69-day meet for Canterbury Park in 2016.

Canterbury Park’s Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse season will open May 20 and run through September 17. First post for racing on Thursdays and Fridays will be 6:30 p.m. (CDT), and weekend and holiday racing will begin at 12:45. The only exception to this schedule will be Saturdays in August, during which racing will begin at 6:30.

"We anticipate that our 2016 meet, which will stretch into the middle of September, will provide the highest quality racing product in the history of Canterbury Park," vice president of racing operations Eric Halstrom said. "The off-season interest from horsemen around the country is an indicator that we will continue our ascent nationally and help bring racing in Minnesota to the next level."

The 2016 stakes schedule and purse structure will be announced next month.
