Evangeline Downs has honored its individual champions from its 46-day American Quarter Horse meet, which ended December 19.

John Hamilton and David Alvarez won 40 races to share the track’s leading jockey honors. Hamilton, the 2014 leading rider at Evangeline, had mount earnings of $489,670, while Alvarez’s mounts banked $382,633. Alfonso Lujan was third with 36 wins.

Leading trainer Robert Touchet prepped the winners of 30 wins, three more than runner-up Trey Ellis. Kenneth Roberts Sr., the meet’s 2014 leading trainer, was third with 21 wins.

Touchet was also Evangeline’s leading owner with 14 wins from 30 starters, five more than Joan Rood, the meet’s co-leading owner in 2014.

The meet’s richest race -- and the state of Louisiana’s richest race for any breed -- the 400-yard, $1-million Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders’ Association Futurity (RG1) on November 28, was won by Julio Rios’ Jess A Saint. A $7,200 yearling buy, the gelded son of champion Jess Louisiana Blue earned $445,000 for his effort.
