Press Release

Sunland canceled its Tuesday card.

Due to track conditions from the extended winter storm, live racing at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino was cancelled on Tuesday after one race.

Live racing will resume on Friday at 12:45 p.m.

Five big stakes races are planned next weekend. The $65,000 Bold Ego Handicap for fillies and mares racing five and one-half furlongs is set for Saturday’s 9th race. Three-time Harry Henson Handicap winner African Rose meets a stellar group of females including multiple stakes winner and 2014 Bold Ego winner Belleofthebeach. Untraveled, Cat Trap, Small Moves and Cassy Sue, Call Me Sandy, Naomi and Chanteline help make up a very fast group.

There are four stakes races planned for Sunday, anchored by $350,000 Championship at Sunland Park (Grade 1) starring 2014 world champion JRC Callas First. 2014 All American Futurity runner-up Mad About the Moon, Zooming Effortlessly and Jess Featureme Quick are also leading contenders.

The inaugural running of the $250,000 Sunland Park Winter Juvenile Championship happens on Sunday as well.  Astica stars in Sunday’s $85,000 Lou Wooten/Sydney Valentini Handicap at 400 yards.

870 yard experts collide in the $85,000 Challenger Six Handicap. D E Wagons Strawfly and Coronas Boy lead that field.
