The Indiana Horse Racing Commission will conduct a summit meeting Friday at the Farm Bureau Building at the state fairgrounds in Indianapolis. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. and is scheduled to last two hours.
“The IHRC has decided to host this racing summit in an effort to create an open dialogue about our industry,” said commission chairman Thomas Weatherwax in a statement dated October 23. “This open-invitation public meeting will give all Indiana horse racing participants an opportunity to share their thoughts and suggestions with commission members.”
Topics expected to be covered at the meeting include suggested changes that would help make industry stakeholders more profitable or more efficient, how the commission can help stakeholders expand their investment in the racing industry, and whether or not Indiana’s current racing calendar is sufficient.
People who can’t attend are invited to submit written comments in advance of the summit.
“We want this experience to be a positive exchange of ideas and suggestions,” Weatherwax said. “We desire to hear from horsemen regarding their thoughts and suggestions that will benefit our racing community and enhance our racing programs.
“We’re also interested in exploring different routes of communication and marketing ideas that advertise our successful racing programs to those currently residing in Indiana, along with those outside the state,” he added. “Many aspects of the racing industry are beneficial to not only our horsemen, but also merge into the agri-business and entertainment sectors of our state.”
