Delta Downs Opens 46-Night Meet on Friday
The track will present a stakes schedule worth approximately $2.8 million.

Delta Downs will open its 46-date American Quarter Horse season on Friday with a 10-race program, topped by the 350-yard, $50,000 John Alleman Memorial Stakes (RG3) for Louisiana-breds. Post time for the first race is set for 6:15 p.m. (CDT).
The John Alleman Memorial, which has drawn a full field of 10 state-bred aged sprinters, is the first of 26 stakes worth approximately $2.8-million in purse money. Once again, Delta’s stakes schedule will be topped by the 350-yard, $625,000-est. Lee Berwick Memorial Futurity (RG2) for Louisiana-bred 2-year-olds on closing night, July 9.
The Lee Berwick will be the centerpiece of Delta’s Louisiana Showcase Night, featuring eight stakes for state-bred sprinters, including the 400-yard, $225,000 Delta Downs Derby (RG3) for 3-year-olds, and the 440-yard, $100,000 Louisiana Classic Stakes (RG2) for aged runners.
Other stakes highlights include the 330-yard, $275,000-est. Louisiana Breeders’ Lassie Futurity (RG2) on May 20; the 330-yard, $275,000-est. Louisiana Breeders’ Laddie Futurity (RG2) on May 21; the 400-yard, $150,000-est. Firecracker Derby on July 1; and the 350-yard, $325,000-est. Firecracker Futurity (G2) on July 2.
