Texas Commission Sets 2017 Race Dates

The Texas Racing Commission has set the state's 2017 race dates.

The Texas Racing Commission has set the 2017 race dates for the state's four tracks.

Sam Houston Race Park will kick of Texas' Quarter Horse season with a 24-day meet that will run from March 31-May 22, followed by a 20-day Quarter Horse meet at Retama Park near San Antonio from June 9-August 12. The state's Quarter Horse season will end with a 26-day meet at Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie from September 15-November 11.

The Gillespie County Fair in Fredericksburg was granted its traditional eight-day mixed meet. Live racing will be held at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds on July 1-2 and 15-16 and August 12-13 and 26-27.

In all, the 2017 race dates for Texas tracks include 70 Quarter Horse race days and eight days of mixed-breed racing.
